Last Tuesday lectures – starting tomorrow.

The first of the new season of Hungate evening talks will take place at 6pm tomorrow, Tuesday 28th February. Sophie Cabot and Brian Ayers will talk on ‘St Peter Hungate before the Normans’ – Brian will talk about the origins of the parish and the earliest settlement on the site, and Sophie will discuss the name ‘Hungate’; it’s origin, meaning, date and importance.

FREE, All Welcome.

(Tea & Coffee will be available, but do wrap up warm!)


We are seeking contributors to the next exhibition. Did your family live in the parish? We are keen to hear from you, especially if your grandparents or great grandparents were amongst those rehoused from the parish to new housing estates around Norwich between the wars. Email us on

Our Spring exhibition ‘Hungate in its Parish’ will open on Saturday 11th February 2017. One of 58 medieval parishes within the city walls, St Peter Hungate was always small by comparison with its larger neighbours, but just what sort of place was it in the middle ages?
